Odour & Dust

As part of our portfolio of environmental monitoring services, we offer specialist advice on the adverse impact of dust and odour across a range of projects including construction, waste handling and mineral extraction.

Strategic approach

Cost-effective monitoring, modelling and mitigation strategies can be developed, as well as management plans produced to address issues of odour and dust. Within our testing portfolio, we have Calibrated Noses to carry out accurate odour assessments.

Construction projects, waste handling including anaerobic digestion and mineral extraction all have the potential for adverse odour impacts.

Demolition of buildings in busy urban environments can create issues with dust. Our dust monitors record Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and TSP (Total Suspended Particulates) and data can be made available via a monitoring website, with a site alert system built in.

Industrial impact

The prediction of impacts from industrial emissions and the identification of appropriate mitigation are important aspects of planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Permit applications.

We can provide advice during the design stage to help identify potential constraints early in the process, incorporating the necessary features before installation which avoids unnecessary and unexpected costs.

Local Air Quality Management (LAQM)

We have extensive experience of the LAQM process, including helping local authorities to deliver the range of assessments required as part of this process.

Our consultants have been involved in the appraisal of Review and Assessment reports on behalf of the Greater London Authority, Defra and the Devolved Administrations, and fully understand the requirements of LAQM reporting.

Planning matters

We also assist local authorities to comply with local air quality regulations by appraising air quality assessments submitted in support of planning applications, using our professional experience to comment on the evidence supplied.

Our dedicated monitoring team can install and maintain monitoring equipment for a range of pollutants to obtain a robust dataset for decision-making on air quality issues.
